On June 29, 1940, 28 people gathered at the Labor Temple at 309 South Franklin Street, Syracuse, New York. At that time a charter was granted from the United Slate, Tile & Composition Roofers, Damp and Waterproof Workers Association of America. The original Charter, which is still in good condition, was signed by International President George W. Jones and International Secretary/Treasurer J.M. Gavlak. This charter hangs on the wall in our Union Office. The prevailing wage for the first quarter of 1940 was $1.00 per hour. Since the grant of the original charter, many officers and new members have been added.
